If you are going on holiday in the UK and need to drive your whole family to get there, then you will want to pay special attention to which vehicle you choose to do the job, you don’t want to end up at the accident repairs in wirral or London.
A big boot for suitcases and other goodies, plenty of rear leg room for the passengers, extra seats if required and of course safety are all essential elements to the perfect car, yet which one is right for you and your road trip will depend on your individual requirements.
Today we will be taking a look at and recommending 5 different family cars ideal for any road trip. Be sure to let us know your thoughts by commenting below.
SEAT Alhambra MPV
The 7 seater SEAT Alhambra might feature a name you would expect to see printed on a car rental slip in Spain, but this is a mighty fine car for the UK roads. The interior quality in this new car is top class and there is a full 267 litres of luggage space in the boot, without you ever having to fold down the rear seats. The diesel Ecomotive version will return up to 50mpg.
Skoda Octavia VRS
For those who seek incredible value for money with a good mix of quality, reliability and power at the same time, you cannot go wrong with a Skoda Octavia VRS. The VRS is the best value for money car out of the range with its responsive engine to pull all of those heavy suitcases your family will have packed for a road trip. A potential 41.3mpg is on the cards for sensible drivers with the diesel version.
Land Rover Discovery 4
Nothing quite says road trip like a Land Rover, and the Discovery 4 is the best yet. This 4 x 4 is a great car for the family and will put up with almost any type of terrain you throw at it. The lowest specification engine the TDV6 produces a full 251bhp which is more than enough for a car that is so heavy and well built in the first place, and the Land Rover offers great comfort for passengers too.
The Ford B-MAX is a very, very good family car. It looks stunning, comes with a 5 star safety rating, and the doors are conventional making them incredibly easy to get in and out of. There is tons of leg room in the back for passengers and head room is great also. For 2013 the B-MAX got a facelift making it prettier and better than ever.
The KIA Sportage looks incredible and is the first car in KIA’s range to be marketed at those who want quality and affordability. The Sportage is a great looking 4 x 4 which is also available as a 2WD. The 1.7 CRDi 2WD variant is interesting as it produces CO2 emissions as low as 135g/km and 50mpg is a realistic target with careful driving. For plenty of space, good looks and running costs, the KIA is a good buy.
